Like Attracts Like

You may have heard it stated that the basic law of attraction, simply put, means “like attracts like”. While that is true, it is important that you understand a bit more fully what those words mean.  It doesn’t mean, for example, that you will attract people into your life who are like you.  Rather, the “like” we are talking about here has to do with the energy, or vibration, which you put out into the world.

Energy: a very basic law of attraction concept

Everything around you is made up of energy. This is true whether we are talking about something alive, such as a person, an animal, or a plant, or whether we are talking about an inanimate object, such as a chair or a piece of clothing.  But it doesn’t stop there.  Our thoughts and feelings, though intangible, are also comprised of energy.

This energy creates a vibration. When you touch a key on the piano, the sound it creates is actually due to the vibration of the string inside the piano.  So the “like attracts like” idea, when it comes to the basic law of attraction, pertains to the energy, or vibration, which you put out into the world.  And that vibration will attract something with a like vibration.

You may be wondering how this applies to the law of attraction and you.  It has to do primarily with the vibration of your thoughts and feelings.  Negative thoughts and emotions, such as anger, sadness, frustration, anxiety, and fear are low energy vibrations.  If your thoughts and feelings are often sad or anxious, you will attract things into your life which lead to more sadness and anxiety.

On the other hand, if you are usually happy and joyful, you will attract more things into your life which make you happy and joyful.  Positive thoughts and emotions have a much higher energy level, or a higher vibration.  And they attract more of the same as well.  This is what the basic law of attraction is really about.

Change Your Energy:  Attract What You Desire

This is good news because it means we have the ability to change our energy, or vibration, to a higher frequency so that we start attracting more of the things we really desire.  You can raise your energy by changing your thoughts and feelings.  It takes practice, particularly if you are a habitually negative person.  But by doing this you can get the basic law of attraction to begin working in your favor, rather than working by default.

A good way to start changing your energy is to first being monitoring your thoughts and emotions.  If you find that many of the thoughts which go through your mind are negative, then you need to stop them as soon as you think them.  When you stop them, you then need to shift your thoughts to something positive; something that makes you feel good when you think about it.
For example, you might recall a happy memory, or imagine you have just been given a million dollars.  You might look at a picture which elicits a positive mood, such as a person you care about or a place you love to visit.   By shifting your thoughts and feelings to high energy vibrations such as joy, happiness, love, etc, the more you will start attracting things into your life which make you feel more happiness and joy.  That is the basic law of attraction working to your advantage!

Law of Attraction at work in your life

Regardless of whether you realize it or not.  The problem is, if you don’t pay attention to your thoughts and emotions – essentially, to the “vibrations” you are sending out to the Universe, the law of attraction may be working against you.  Following are some law of attraction tips to help you make some changes so it is working in your favor – i.e., so you are attracting those things which you desire into your life, whether it be financial freedom, loving relationships, romance, good health or the home of your dreams.

Be Very Clear About What You Do Want

Of all the law of attraction tips, being very clear about what you want is one of the most important. Often, when people first learn about the law of attraction and try to make changes in their thought processes and emotions, they make a list of the things they really desire in their life.  If you have done this, chances are you did something which many people do: you created a list with things such as “more money”, “a better job”, “lose weight” and so on.

The problem with a list like that is that it is too vague.  To help you better understand this first of the law of attraction tips, let’s use the example of “more money”, as that is a desire almost everyone has.  The problem with that statement is that “more” money could mean a couple extra dollars coming your way this month (which probably isn’t going to get you very excited!) or it could mean a million dollars coming into your life.
You need to be much more specific; you need to let the Universe know exactly how much “more money” you want. The same principle applies to everything else on that list.  If you want to lose weight, then be very specific how much weight.  Is it 5 pounds or 50 pounds?  The clearer you are about your desire, the more likely you are to attract it into you life.  This principle is really at the core of all law of attraction tips; clarity goes a long way.

Visualize it, Using All Your Senses

Another one of the most important and powerful law of attraction tips is to visualize whatever it is you desire, as if you had it right now.  Often, with visualization, people don’t engage their other four senses.  Rather than just picturing the object of your desire in your mind, you also need to imagine what it smells like, what it sounds like, what it tastes like (if applicable, of course!) and what it feels like to touch it.

Here’s an example of this second of the law of attraction tips. Let’s say you desire to attract a brand new BMW.  When you visualize it (and do this at least once or twice a day), imagine how it would feel driving the car.  How does the seat feel as you sit in it?  How does it feel to hold the steering wheel?  What does the car smell like?  What does it sound like as you turn the engine on and drive down the road?  And of course, what does it look like?  Be very specific.  What color is the exterior?  What color is the car’s interior?  You get the idea.

There are entire books written which give you tons of great law of attraction tips.  But if you start applying the two listed here on a regular basis, you will definitely start attracting the things you truly desire!

Attract Things You Desire

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, you have probably heard of the “Law of Attraction”.  People all over the world were exposed to this concept for the first time when the hit movie, “The Secret” was released.  It is a very real law, but within it there are several “laws” of attraction that you need to know if you want to implement this way of thinking into your life.  Once you learn and apply them, you can attract the things you desire and begin living the life of your dreams.

The underlying premise of the various laws of attraction is that in order to attract, or manifest, your desires, you must align your thoughts and your emotions with them.  While that may sound simple on the surface, for most people it is far easier said than done!

If you are like most people, not only is the life you are living far from your “dream” life, you have a tendency to focus on what you don’t like about your life, or what is “lacking” in your life, rather than what you are happy about and grateful for.  This isn’t to say that you are never grateful; in fact, you may express gratitude fairly often.  But it’s not your focus.

Unlock the Laws of Attraction

One of the key laws of attraction is the idea that what you focus on expands.  And if you are focusing on lack, guess what?  You attract more of the same!  So, if you don’t have enough money, which is a common area of lack for most people, you are attracting more of the same:  more lack of money!  Not exactly what you want, is it?

When it comes to these many laws of attraction, it’s not just about what you are thinking. That’s just part of the picture.  Perhaps even more importantly, it is about the emotions underlying those thoughts.  You could be doing positive affirmations all day long such as “I am wealthy”, “I have money beyond my wildest dreams”, “Money flows into my life every day”, and so on.

But if, while you are saying those affirmations your feelings are sad, frustrated, or anxious, because you know deep down you don’t have much money – perhaps not even enough to make ends meets, the message going out to the Universe is one of lack.  And the Universe responds with, “Okay, since you keep focusing on lack, then I will give you more of the same.”

This is one of the somewhat confusing aspects of the various laws of attraction.  On the surface it may seem that the Universe is punishing you, or teasing you, or part of some mystical conspiracy to keep you broke.  But that’s not really what is happening.  Rather, the Universe is responding to your “vibration”, or your “energy” and giving you more of the same in return.

Vibration and Energy

In order to learn how to use the laws of attraction to your benefit; i.e., to attract into your life the things you desire rather than getting more of what you don’t want, you must change your energy, or your vibration, to align with that desire.

The best way to start doing this is to practice feeling as if you already have what you desire.  It already exists.  You must “get into the feeling” of what it would be like if you had it right now.  Imagine how you would feel if you were a multi-millionaire and had all the money you could ever want.  The more consistently you can do that, the more you will be attracting your desires into your life!  That is the core of all the various laws of attraction.

Asking For What You Want

It seems like a simple enough concept.  If you want something, you have to ask for it first.  But you’d be surprised how many of us have trouble with the simple act of asking for the things we want.

Remember when you were a baby?  Well, you probably can’t remember back that far, but you’re probably aware of the fact that when you were a baby, you had no problem asking for what you wanted.  That’s how babies survive.  They ask to be fed, to be changed, to be cuddled and to be put to bed – and they usually get what they want.

But as you got older, chances are you started to have mixed feelings about asking for what you wanted.  Like when you asked your parents for a candy bar, or an ice cream cone, and they said, “no.”

Maybe they even got angry, or discouraged you from asking for things.

Now this is not to say there’s anything wrong with parents saying no.  They’re in charge, and most of the time, they know what’s best.

But for a lot of us, those early rejections from mom and dad made us start thinking twice about asking for what we really want from life.

And from a Law of Attraction standpoint, this is no-no.  Let me explain why.

You may not realize this, but your subconscious mind has a lot of power.  But most of us just kind of let our minds run around, flitting from idea to idea.  When we could – and SHOULD – be putting that power to work.

When we want things, and we don’t feel comfortable asking for them, we don’t use our subconscious minds to attract them to us.  How many of us approach the things we want from a negative standpoint?  For example, say you’re a woman and you want a boyfriend.  But you don’t say to the universe, “I want a boyfriend.”

You say, “How come I can’t find a man???”

At that point, the universe hears you loud and clear.  It hears “I can’t find a man.”

And so you don’t.

Other times, we’re not specific about what we want.  Some people are constantly saying.”I hate my job.”   When from a Law of Attraction standpoint, they should not be talking about the job they hate, but the job they want.

Say you asked for “a new job with a six-figure salary where I get to work with people in a position of authority.   And I want an office with a window.”

When you do that, you are telling the universe EXACTLY what you want.

When you think about the SPECIFIC things you want, you focus the power of your subconscious mind on attracting those things to you.

Which allows the Law of Attraction to work its magic.
So the next time you really, really want something, think about it, focus on it and ask.
