Gratitude, Nichole Nordeman

One of my favorite songs–I hope it touches you as it does me.
When I was younger I used to make a list of all the things I wanted to do over the next year and call them my “resolutions” for the New Year. Invariably I wouldn’t do half the things on my list – or more – and it got to be very disappointing.
Over the course of time and growth I realized that setting a “resolution” meant that I was seeking to change something that “wasn’t working” in my life for one reason or another. Inherently in that resolution process I was acknowledging that I wasn’t happy with the way I was or what I was doing. In other words, I was saying I was broken.
Now, as a Life Coach I know that no one is broken – especially me. But sometimes we do get stuck in ruts or run up against a wall or tread too deeply in the muck….but that’s not broken….it’s just held back a little bit from how we’d like to be. So a few years back I dropped the word “resolution” in favor of the word “intention.”
While resolution meant “changing what I do” the word intention meant “choosing a way I wish to be.” That felt a lot cleaner and easier for me to manage. I wasn’t saying anything about how I was, but how I wanted to be in the future. I was looking forward instead of back…and we all know how much more effective that can be.
With my newly empowering word “intention” I promptly made another list of 10-15 ways I wanted to be over the next year. “Why act small when you can cover it all,” I thought! I actually had to limit myself to a list that size. About 3/4 of the way through that year I looked at my list and realized I’d done a fair job of moving towards some of them, a moderate job at others, and a lousy job at a few. Really it wasn’t all that better than before I started using the word intention. Hmmmmmm…..was I over reaching still? Was something still missing?
And then it hit me – 15 areas of focus?? Seriously?? When I’m working with my clients I ask them to pick 3-5 subjects of attention and most only choose 3-4. So why was I shocked that with that many items I wasn’t doing the things I wanted to do. So I reassessed what I was doing and what the point was.
The point of setting New Years Intentions was to guide me to become the person I wanted to be over the next year, to help me facilitate the ways of being that would bring about the results I desired, and to help me focus my intention on the creation rather than the change. “Ok”, I thought to myself, “So if all of this is about how I want to be why does it need to be complicated?” I tell my clients all the time to not worry about the details but to focus on the “being” part of what they want to accomplish because if you can create the “way of being” in your life the rest will simply fall into place effortlessly.
Think of it this way, if you focus on being “generous and giving” you’ll create opportunities where your talents are needed and desired. If you focus on “being positive and open minded” you’ll notice all these opportunities to enjoy life and the world around you. So I boiled down all the things I wanted to create in my life and I came up with one very simple yet very challenging intention.
My intention that particular year was “I will be fully present with myself.” Yikes! Fully present?? I wasn’t even sure I knew what that meant….but I did it anyway. Over the course of the year I simply kept coming back to how I felt, what I wanted, what was important to me, what I was noticing in my behaviors, where I was putting my attention….I just kept coming present with myself and focusing on the now. I didn’t worry about the details or the answers or what the results were, I just kept checking in and being present with the “now” rather than the past or the future.
And it totally worked! I had a great year….well, actually it was a pretty challenging year but I felt so much more aware, awake, and alive that even the challenges felt positive. Now, several years later that feeling of presence and attention to the now still remains. It’s become habitual and…..easy.
The following year I set the intention “I will be fully embodied.” I spent the year checking in with my physical self, noticing how my emotions affected and interacted with my body, I focused on my breathing and creating awareness of how my connection to my body affected my life. Again my life unlocked itself a little bit more. I felt a lot more comfortable and at ease with who I was as a person, what was important to me and what I was inviting into my life. Again it shifted everything and I became even more alive and engaged in my life than ever before. I was ecstatic! I began to notice all the little details of my life and how simply focusing on myself invited in the things I wanted to attract.
The next year my intention was “To have a healthy and pain free body.” Of course I’d spent so much time the year before becoming fully embodied I could now feel every ache and pain, creak and groan as if it were everything there was. Of course with this intention I promptly injured myself and took nearly the whole year to heal – but it was such an incredible manifestation of momentum and energy that I’ve come out of the end of the year with one of the healthiest bodies I’ve had in a decade and just getting better!
But this year? I almost didn’t think about it until just yesterday. But when I did it came to me simply and easily.
For 2009 my intention is “I will simply surrender into the flow and trust.”
Seems simple enough, huh? Yeah right!! I can’t wait to see what happens this year!
What is your intention for 2009? Here’s a hint: Keep it simple!
What are you thinking about right now? The Law of Attraction states that “whatever we think about, we bring about”. This law may initially seem like new age fluff but believe it or not, there are scientific merits to this proposition. The top quantum physicists of our time have discovered that our universe and our reality is very much directed by the “observer”.
When studying quantum particles (the smallest observable unit of matter), these scientists discovered that such particles behave in accordance with the person conducting the experiment. It the scientists “predict” that quantum particles behave in a certain way, they do. And yet, if the scientists “predict” that quantum particles behave in another way, they do. It is the “observer” that dictates the outcome of the experiment!
What does all this mean for us normal people? Well actually, these scientific experiments has far reaching implications for us as our world is made up of these same quantum particles! In this case, we are the “observer” the director and hence the creator of our reality, our world and our experience.
So, be careful of what you think about! for example, have you thoughts ever begun with the following phrases:
I don’t understand…
I don’t want…
I’m frustrated that…
I hate my…
I can’t figure out …
I’m stressed about…
I’m worried that…
I should be able to… but I can’t…
Why am I having so much trouble?
The Law of Attraction indifferent to the words preceding your thought. Whatever you think about you will attract into your life. When you think “I don’t understand why bad things always happen to me?”, you are “attracting” bad things into your life. When you think “I want to get out of debt”, you are attracting more debt into your life. When you think “I’m worried I will get sick”, you are attracting sickness into your life! The Law of Attraction brings about what you focus on even if it is not what you want. Get it?
If you understand this principle, here are some examples of how to make the law of attraction work to support you rather than to act against you. Try observing your thoughts and changing your thinking in the following way:
“I want to get out of debt” to “I want to earn amazing riches”
“I hate my boss” to “I look forward to owning my own business”
“I don’t understand why he is so lazy” to “I love it when he helps out around the house”
“I’m stressed about this project” to “I always create amazing results in my projects”
“I’m worried about getting sick” to “I experience vibrant health daily”
Now that we have a better understanding of the Law of Attraction, it is no surprise why so many people struggle with regards to money. It is been said that “the rich get richer while the poor get poorer”. This is actually the Law of Attraction in action. Because the wealthy have money, they often think about how to best use their money and hence they attract more money. The poor on the other hand often think about their present lack of money and unfortunately, that also attracts lack into their lives. Currently, 96% of the world’s wealth is being earned by just 1% of the population!
To address this issue, the main teachers behind the movie is launching a program is called “The Science of Getting Rich” and it is based on employing the law of attraction to create wealth. This amazing program is based on the principles and philosophies outlined in a book of the same title written in 1910 by Wallace D Wattles. This is the same book that inspired the movie.
What is the Science of Getting Rich about? Well in the words of Wallace D. Wattles, “The ownership of money and property comes as a result of doing things in a certain way. Those who do things in this certain way, whether on purpose or accidentally, get rich. Those who do not do things in this certain way, no matter how hard they work or how able they are, remain poor. It is a natural law that like causes always produce like effects. Therefore, any man or woman who learns to do things in this certain way will infallibly get rich.” The Science of Getting Rich Seminar is all about teaching how to do things in this “certain” way to create wealth.

The Power of Gratitude Can Transform Your Life
By · CommentsTrue inner transformation will come to you when you practice gratitude. Follow these steps to develop an attitude of gratitude. THE best way to raise your vibration and attract what you desire.
I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to practice gratitude when you are following your path to personal development growth.
Think of it not only as a tool for transformation but as a way of life.
Now, if you have wrapped your mind around the fact that we are all energy then you realize there is no separation and we are all connected. Everything is energy with it’s own rate of vibration that attracts things of like vibrations to it. That of course includes our thoughts. And thoughts, feelings and words of gratitude are some of the most powerful and they allow for great positive shifts to occur.
THE TOP 2 WAYS TO PRACTICE GRATITUDE
#1. BE THANKFUL IN ADVANCE: It has been said that the most powerful form of gratitude is the kind which you express in advance of your actual experience. The expression of faith that this requires allows for the most effective type of vibrational shift.
#2. FIND THINGS TO BE GRATEFUL FOR IN BAD SITUATIONS: Focus on someone you have a conflict with or on a negative emotional situation in your life. You then look for things to be grateful for in those situations. They may not be obvious, but they are ALWAYS there.
Be grateful… that you only have to deal with this person once a month, that if it weren’t for this situation – you wouldn’t have met a new friend, that this situation now offers an opportunity for growth…
A newer, more positive energy will be come from this especially since you had to look deeper into yourself to find the gratitude.
OTHER WAYS TO PRACTICE GRATITUDE
KEEP A GRATITUDE JOURNAL: It’s a good practice to take 10 minutes a day to write down things you are grateful for and that bring you joy. They can be big or small as long as you tune into the feelings of gratitude for having them in your life right now.
Be grateful for: a stress-free commute to work, a call you got from an old friend, a delicious meal, a hug from your child, a compliment you received from your boss, a great night’s sleep, an invigorating workout…
DO A GRATITUDE WALK: As you’re strolling with the kids, walking the dog, or doing your chores, look around and rattle off as many things as you can think of to be grateful for. Tell the Universe out loud what you love about your life.
HAVE A GRATITUDE ROCK: This is something I first saw in The Secret movie. Find a small rock and keep it with you throughout the day and let it remind you to state something you’re grateful for whenever you touch it.
WATCH A GRATITUDE AFFIRMATION VIDEO: Go to Wealthvibes.com or YouTube.com and watch free affirmation videos. Make it part of your daily ritual and a powerful gratitude exercise.
WRITE A GRATITUDE LETTER: Write a mock letter to someone very important in your life who would be excited for your news. Tell them how grateful you are about this wonderful thing that has happened in your life. Doing this exercise will bring about intense emotions and will put you in a joyful, grateful vibration.
“Hi Julia, The most exciting thing happened to me… I couldn’t wait to tell you about it. I went to the gym a few weeks ago and was working out and got to talking to the girl next to me. I told her about the new web business that I just launched and she was so interested that she interviewed me for a local newspaper article. It created tons of traffic to my website and I made some big sales too. I am SO grateful that I met her that day.”
TIP: You can even write this “as if” that something happened to try and attract it into your life.
DO THE MIRROR EXERCISE: Talk to yourself out loud while looking into a mirror. Express your gratitude and appreciation. If you use EFT, tap around at the same time. Later on, you can use this image of yourself tapping in a visualization for a quick, enhanced gratitude refresher.
Just make sure you practice gratitude every day. Create a routine that’s easy and sustainable.
When it comes to creating and experiencing the kind of life you want, it’s a law of the Universe that it will always deliver in the right time for the right vibration of your body.
So if you practice gratitude, you will energetically raise your vibration and speed up the process of attracting what you desire.
There is truly NO BETTER WAY to do that than when you have an attitude of gratitude.
